HOW SAFE WORKS

SAFE uses real costs and expenses to create a virtual, experiential learning1 environment where student-athletes learn the responsibility of their daily financial lives.

Student-athletes will be exposed to video content, financial lessons and, on a monthly basis, "Bill Pay" and "Choices" where they make personal and relevant financial choices over the course of four year.

1 Experiential Learning is the process of making meaning from direct experience, or, simply, "learning from doing". As Aristotle claimed, "for things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them".

Lessons

Student-athletes will complete personal financial management lessons at a pace that mirrors their level of aptitude.

Daily Habits

Based on the value of the scholarship, student-athletes will establish monthly and annual budgets and will monitor spending.

Based on how well finances are managed, student-athletes will work in a virtual application and make personal financial "Choices" to Spend, Give or Save (Invest). Each choice comes with additional tips and lessons to advise consequences and progress.

Aspirational Map

Student-athletes will examine the link between their academic discipline and the professional opportunities in the sports industry and beyond. This process extends beyond the sports industry and allows student-athletes a starting point for developing a post-graduation strategy.

Professional Networking

Using various databases (alumni, professional directories) and platforms (Linkedin, etc.) student-athletes will develop a strategy to identify career opportunities in their field of study, the sports industry and non-traditional paths.
